Handy Tips

Wear gloves to protect the skin on your hands

Whenever your skin is exposed to anything that irrirtates your skin wear a pair of vinyl or plastic gloves. And wear cotton gloves underneath to soak up the sweat from your hands.

Remember, cold air and humidity dry your skin - dryness can make your skin condition worse. Wear gloves wherever possible.

Keep dust mites down

Keep bedrooms cool and dry to minimise house dust mites. Wash all of your bedding in hot water regularly.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

The most important thing when caring for your psoraisis or eczema is to keep your skin well moisturized.

The aim of the moisturizer is to not only moisten dry skin but to replace the natural oily protective barrier that is lacking in the inflammed skin. Moisturizers come in several different forms - creams, ointments, lotions and bath oils. They will soften and smooth the skin and improve itching.

Baby eczema in nappies

Following are some tips to help minimize the irritation of having ezcema and needing a nappy

Wash the skin thoroughly using a gentle soap or soap substitute at every nappy change.

  • Change nappies regularly
  • Allow the skin to breath by leaving the nappy off when possible (ie at nappy change time and after baths)
  • Use a protective barrier cream at each nappy change.
  • Try to use soft fluffy nappies rather than old scratchy nappies that may aggravate the skin further.

Finding a disposable nappy that suits the skin type may be a matter of trial and error. Disposable nappies may help to keep the skin dry as they draw the moisture away from the skin.
