Pregnancy and Eczema

Pregnancy causes many changes in the body. Although most of the changes are obvious and explainable, some are still creating a degree of mystery.

One such mystery is why some women have eczema flare ups during pregnancy whilst others find their eczema goes into remission.

Increased blood volume and hormones

During pregnancy a woman’s blood volume increases considerably. She will also have high levels of the pregnancy hormone in her blood stream. This increase in blood and hormones can cause significant changes in a woman’s skin texture. These changes however will vary from woman to woman. Some women will experience dry, flaky skin whilst other women will experience smooth, oily skin. It is not known why the skin reacts so differently.

Similarly, women suffering from eczema will notice changes in their skin. However whilst some women experience out of control flare-ups others will find their eczema clears up totally. Although doctors are researching this area they are yet to come up with an explanation for the huge variations.

Take special care of your skin!

One thing they do agree on though is the care your skin needs whilst you are pregnant especially if you have eczema.

Skin care tips during pregnancy
